We live in a city overrun by frozen yogurt, I have not one, not two but, THREE frozen yogurt places within walking distance of where I live. When people tell you that Washington DC is a bad place to live, I think they’re referring to the unfair imbalance of frozen desert options. I’m really happy that Jeni’s is opening and joining Ice Cream Jubilee in fighting back against bland dairy products.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will hold its grand opening on October 5th at its brand new 14th street location. Ooey and I dropped in yesterday and we were not disappointed. The very Instagramable location is bright, clean, and smells amazing like freshly made waffle cones.
The ice cream is very rich and creamy, reminding me a little bit of custard. There are flavors like goat cheese cherry, churro, and brambleberry crisp. I split a cone of buttermilk raspberry with Ooey but when she decided it was all hers I ended up ordering a second scoop of salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks (my new favorite flavor).
We ordered our ice cream and then went upstairs to an enormous dining area. I could definitely envision this space being perfect for birthday gatherings. Highchairs are available as well as booths, benches and tables.
Jeni’s hit the spot, and I will definitely be a regular here. The brand originated in Columbus, Ohio where they have a cult following. It’s easy to see why!
