The swimming doesn’t have to end just because it’s fall! A list of indoor public pools in Washington DC.

By my count there are nine public indoor pools in Washington DC. In this post I talk about the experience Ooey and I had at the Wilson Aquatic Center, an indoor public pool in DC. If you want to skip to the bottom you’ll find a complete list of indoor pools and some resources for getting your kiddo into swimming lessons.

The Wilson Aquatic Centerย

I had big plans of spending the summer, La Croix in hand, at the pool. This, ultimately, happened all of one times (womp womp). It turns my toddler is still a bit too small/uncoordinated to take to a pool with any considerable depth. She was still up to her old games of running around on the concrete around the pool while I frantically tried to keep up.

We did spend a ton of time atย The Yards Park, a shallow wading pool.ย I don’t like to think that fall means the end of our wading adventures so we recently checked out the Wilson Aquatic Center which has an indoor “leisure pool”. I hesitate to call anything involving a toddler leisurely but it was a great setup.

The pool has a beach entry with intermittent fountain features. The gradual entryway leads to a basketball hoop and a mini lap pool. When I was there a dad was walking alongside his toddler who was holding a kick board while doing mini-laps. (I was a little envious, that would definitely tire Ooey out).

We parked on the street, the pool entrance is nearest the Whole Foods, and I had to show my drivers license to enter. There were showers, lockers and changing rooms, I noticed other parents leaving their belongings on chairs poolside, so I did the same. Ooey was entertained by the pool aides that were available and even let me put on one of the many life jackets available for children. We stayed all of about an hour, I was tired not Ooey, but we will definitely be back.
