Tudor Tots is a weekly program for children held on Tuesday mornings at the Tudor Place historic property in Georgetown in Washington, D.C.
There’s a sliding scale of enjoyment I get out of children’s programming and it ranges from frustrated (overcrowded programing led by grumpy instructors) to delighted (hidden gems that turn out to be more fun than anticipated). The Tudor Tots program at the historic Tudor Place in Georgetown is on the far end of the spectrum, delightful. It stands alongside a handful of other programs that I really look forward to (Tea with Mrs. B, BloomBars, my MOPS group). Notable aspect of Tudor Tots include the environment and pace of the program.
The theme of the program changes on a weekly basis but key elements are stories, songs, crafts and movement. Every few minutes the activity changes, keeping otherwise antsy kids engaged. Ooey and I have attended twice now and the themes were Art and Dancing. The program opens with a welcome song, everyone sits in a circle and each child sings aloud their name as part of the song. Next comes a story, followed by another song, another story, a song and then a craft. Thrown in are dancing and opportunities to play with soft blocks throughout the program.
The program is forty-five minutes long and ends just in time to wander around the grounds before lunch time. The grounds around the house are well maintained English gardens with an open lawn, hedge mazes, statues and fountains all of which are easy on the eyes and fun for kids. The girls were playing in the bushes, pictured below, which was not allowed but was also too dang cute to not share.
